2Leaks!  Nov 28, 2008
By HF Engineer
I really liked the idea of an automatic soap dispenser for dish soap. I got mine last year for Christmas. Well, by April, I started noticing dish soap under the dispenser whenever I moved it to wipe down the counter. By October, the dispenser had quit working entirely. I replace the batteries for a second time (first time was in May), but it still doesn't work. Luckily there's a manual push button on the dispenser. Right now, I'm just waiting to use up all the soap and figure out what type of container I'd like to try next.
Overall, if you only want to use the product for a few months, this would be fine, but if you expect something that will last-look elsewhere.

1Stopped working due to soap leak inside TWICE  Jul 27, 2009
By H. Bland "HBland"
I received this as a gift . After only a month or two, it started leaking. There was a small crack inside that caused the soap to leak into the battery compartment. The batteries rusted and soap stayed on the counter continuously due to the leak . I called the manufacturer and they shipped another one with no problem. I was VERY impressed by the customer service. The new one, however, has stopped working and has a leak also. I would recommend another soap dispenser due to the poor quality but still am very impressed with the customer service and ease of the first return. Have not attempted to return the second one.

2Crap shoot  Aug 12, 2009
By Rita Harden "Rita K."
I bought two of these dispensers, one for the kitchen and one for the bathroom. The one I placed in the bath has been great and is still going strong after three months. The one I placed in the kitchen died after only 6 weeks. Both dispensers have been erratic in soap amounts no matter what setting you have it on. Bottom line, it is a crap shoot as to whether you get a good one or not; when they work they work great but it seems to be about 50/50 as to whether you will get a good one or not.

I am going to try another manufacturer to replace my kitchen dispenser. I don't want to gamble again.

17 months later, the unit died  May 24, 2009
By G. Lyster "glyster"
When I first bought this unit, I was in love with it, and told all my friends about it. Then I bought the second one, this one the battery couldn't stay in because the screw was not long enough to screw the cover back on. Well, no big deal I went and exchanged for another one. Then 7 months later, the first one I bought died. I put in brand new batteries. That did not solve the problem. I read the other reviews with instructions how to fix this problem. I am sorry, I don't have the patience nor the talent to go through those steps. A soap dispenser that costs $40 should never require users' repairs nor should it break down after 7 months of useage. If I have done this feedback when I first bought it, it would have been a 5 star, but not now. Simple Human ... are you reading these reviews?

2Why didn't I listen to the bad reviews?  Jun 02, 2010
By Little Mom
I wanted to like this product so much that I gambled and got one anyway, in spite of the spotty reviews. Just like a bad relationship, I kept it for two months, hoping things would get better even though I had no reason to think that it would magically repair itself.

Here's the problem - I would put my hand under the sensor and the first time a teensy-tiny amount would come out, not even enough to wash a baby's hands. I have it set to the maximum of course. Then the second time I put my hand under, the proper amount would come out. I just got so tired of waiting and going through this song and dance every time I wanted to wash my hands. I liked the design and how it looked on my kitchen counter so I gave it 2 stars. But the functionality of this product must improve drastically, especially for the price.

I didn't really feel like returning this to Simplehuman for another dispenser. I'll try again in a few years when all the kinks are worked out. But I have had dealings with the company on another soap dispenser product and their customer service was very responsive.

By the way, I recently bought a drugstore automatic soap dispenser product made by Lysol. It doesn't look that attractive, but IT WORKS EVERY TIME, and gives the proper amount of soap to wash your hands.
