Advice about how many to get Apr 11, 2010
By K. G. Berliner It's hard to give a piece of metal anything but 5 stars... what would have helped is a little guidance about how they work and how many you need. Let me spell this out for you, 1 Y-spindle is not enough for 1 side, it is literally 1 Y-spindle. I wondered why anyone might want just 1... well this is what you need to know.
The gate has 4 friction points and comes with flat disks that give good friction to walls or anything else that is flat. So ask yourself, is my spindle rectangular on the bottom 2 inches as it enters the floor/stairs? If rectangular on the bottom, but round at the top, then you'll need 1 Y-spindle for each spindle you are placing the gate between. If your spindle is round top-to-bottom, then you'll need to Y-spindles per side.
I hope this helps someone... I also have some advice about the gate, but I'm putting that with the gate reviews.

Easy to Use Jan 01, 2008
By Emmy's Mom I was a little skeptical about how this was going to work, but I have spindles on one side of my staircase and stained wooden molding on the other side, so I didn't want to drill any holes. The other kits were wooden pieces that went around the spindles, and didn't look very good in my opinion. Since my spindles are black iron, I got the black Kidco gate which is pressure mounted. These are very sturdy and the entire system was very easy to install. It also looks good!!! I would definitely recommend these over any other spindle kit.

By noodle Using this Y spindle, 2 of them, with Kidco Center Gateway® gate at bottom of our steps, which have a wrought iron railing at one side -- so far product works really great! Very easy to install on gate.

Works for other brand gates as well Aug 15, 2011
By Meli Mel I purchased this product on the whim and hope that it would work on a Dreambaby gate since many of the components are similiar. Eureka! It did! However, here are some things to be mindful of when purchasing this product: 1. Using the Y Spindle product applies pressure to your railings so make sure they are properly secured before applying. 2. If you are using a gate where there are railings on both sides, you will need to purchase 2 packets, not one. 3. Although your gate might be rated to withstand a pressure of # amount of pounds (200 lbs, etc.), I am unsure if that statement would still be correct when using the Y Spindle product. If you think of it, the Y Spindle works by applying pressure to railings to stand firm. If your railings are not sturdy, your gate will be not be as well. Therefore, I would be precautionary when leaning up against the gate with your weight. There are too many breaking points to consider. 4. Always make sure your gate is locked when using them for your stairs! You may find that your gate did not provide a firm "click" or "lock" in place (so to speak). Just double check to make sure that it is indeed locked.

By San Diego Gal We used these to attach a gate at the bottom of our stairs. We installed this in January (when my son was 7 months old) and nearly 4+ months later the gate is still secure. My son likes to stand and shake the gate too!
