These plates will thaw meat, fish or anything. If you have something cooked it will keep it hot for a long time. The plate absorbs either the cold or the heat of whatever you put on it. When you buy it put an ice cube on it and watch it instantly start to melt. Its wierd and great. I bought my mother-in-law the platters in 2 different sizes and myself a big platter. She couldn't stop talking about it. Good Gift!
