Your new best friend... Jan 18, 2009
By Mary K. Weeks

This board is probably the most useful thing I carry in my white coat pocket. One, you'll always have a hard surface to write on and won't need to borrow a surface in a patient's room (where you'd be picking up MRSA/VRE and who knows what else) before transfering it to another room (same thing applies to other clipboards that don't fit in your coat pocket). Also, they've included some very useful information on the outside of the board including how to interpret Acid/Base problems and tons of helpful equations. You won't regret ordering this board.

Absolutely Essential For Medical Students! Aug 05, 2009

When I began my clerkships, I found myself without an efficient way to take notes during rounds and lectures. It seemed as though my only options were to carry around a regular clipboard or try to write everything in a notebook small enough to fit in my white coat.
When carrying a clipboard, I constantly had to put it down in order to perform physical exams or procedures. This cost precious time and also presented to risk of exposing confidential patient information if the wrong person were to glance at it while I was engaged in something else. Also, almost nothing is more embarrassing than having the papers on your clipboard spill onto the floor during a presentation or during rounds.
On the other side of things, carrying around a small notebook is great for quickly scribbling down notes without the problems associated with carrying around a full sized clipboard. However, I found those notes difficult to organize and integrate with handouts and other documents that were on full sized (8.5"x11"). In addition, the smaller notebook did not provide an adequate writing surface for standardized progress reports, orders, and other forms.
Then along comes the White Coat Clipboard 2.0. It solves the problems of both the regular clipboard and the small notebook, with the additional complement of having some common lab values and other algorithms conveniently printed on the outside. With this product, I could take notes on full sized filler paper, while also carrying forms and handouts.
The bottom line on this product is two fold; First, it makes organizing notes, forms, and other documents that you will be flooded with on the wards infinitely more efficient. Second, being able to fold it and drop it in your white coat pocket allows you to make a better transition between taking notes and having both hands free to perform exams or procedures. If nothing else, it will convey to your patients, supervising residents, and attendings that you are organized, and an integral and capable part of the team, rather than a scribe.
In my opinion, this is one of most important things you can have on the wards along with Maxwell.

White Coat Clipboard fits perfectly Apr 01, 2009
By J. K. Baker Love this clipboard. I carry one daily and have done so for more than a decade. This is the best one I have found and I love that it fits in my white coat pocket. It is sturdy for me to write on at the bedside as well. I have shown it to everyone.

Doesn't work as well as 1.0. Not good for medical students and house staff. Feb 19, 2011
By Martin I bought this clipboard at the beginning of 3rd year of med school. I have now stopped using it altogether. So have almost all of my many classmates who also bought it at the beginning of the year.
I'm not sure how most people hold clip boards, but IMHO grasping it at the top and pressing the bottom against the body is the most stable and convenient way to do it. With this clipboard, the middle would simply collapse out. You have to hold it with one forearm wrapped around the back, and often have to make an effort to support the middle.
This clipboard does not fit into all white coat pockets. Many of my female classmates have small white coats with pockets that are too small to fit this board. Even with my rather large white coat, the board takes up the whole space, and it take a little effort every time to get it.
As a med student, my pocket space is very valuable. I eventually realized that I much prefer using it for Maxwell's, PE tools, sign-out, articles, other documents, pocket medicine or surgical recall, and a small notepad instead of this bulky clipboard. I now find it easier to use a folded up bunch of paper (sign-out or article) or just finding a surface to write on.
One last complaint: the hinges stick out quite a bit, and on occasions get in the way when I'm writing.

This is the nerdiest (and BEST) invention EVER! Nov 24, 2009

I love my "Dorkboard" and so do all of my nerdy med school friends. This is the ultimate in nerdy med school gear. I am sure glad that my nose ring deflects some of the nerdiness of carrying this thing around. But seriously, it's amazing and almost worth the ridiculously high price. Too bad I don't wear my white coat on my psych rotation, I just have to carry it around with me now.
