Excellent Scale! Aug 10, 2009
By San Berdoo When used correctly, this little scale works superbly in my estimation. The instructions are almost impossible to read as they are apparently written by a non-English speaker. That said, if the top plate is hand tightened onto the scale mechanism, it is very secure and works well.
By pressing "ON" and then "TARE" with the provided bowl in place, the unit returns to zero for measurement of whatever you wish to weigh. My bowl, by itself weighs in at 2.8 oz.
The provided bowl has an integral bottom rim which fits over the top plate making the bowl wobble free and easy to use.
I recommend this unit highly. I made sure the unit was correctly calibrated using known value gram weights of 20 and 100 grams and the unit is spot on.
Great unit for the home.

Flimsy and Inaccurate Apr 02, 2009
By gestroud I'm very dissatisfied with this product.
1. The 3-part construction is flimsy 2. The weight it displays are never the same twice. 3. Metric weights are only displayed as whole numbers. If you have a recipe that calls for 7.25 grams of a seasoning, you have to "guesstimate." 4. The platform that the bowl rests on isn't attached to the main unit. It's a separate piece that jiggles back and forth while you're weighing, even when the platform is locked in place. 5. If you're not careful picking the unit up, it can easily separate, drop to the floor and break.

Picture of bowl is misleading Aug 27, 2009
By Lesley Blackwell Overall I am happy with these scales but the one thing I was disappointed in was the size of the bowl. It appeared much bigger in the picture but in actual fact it is quite small.

On the eve of its anniversary the scale still works great. May 24, 2011
By Blue My Mom is planning to buy a scale and asked me my opinion of mine. Here's the response I sent her:
Since getting my scale eleven months ago for Fathers' Day, I almost never use measuring cups anymore. I just weigh everything into whatever I'm mixing together: bread ingredients, drinks, whatever. This morning I measured the cat's food, my cereal, and a serving of Bugles snacks to put in a baggie for my lunch. I like my scale a lot, it seems to be very consistent and to the best of my knowledge it also seems accurate.
My only qualm is that it turns itself off, so if I run out of an ingredient and take a couple of minutes to find more and finish measuring, it resets itself. So If I have to step away, I make a mental note of what the indicator reads. This is usually only a problem if I'm measuring flour and I step away for one reason or another. But It's not a problem anymore, because I am prepared.
The scale changes units easily. Its capacity is 5kg by 1 gram at a time, or 11lbs by 1/10th of an ounce at a time. The switch to change units is on the bottom. If you zero your measuring cup then accidentally weigh out 454g of liquid, remove the container, pick up the scale to flip the switch, and replace the measured liquid it will register 1 lb. So you don't have to worry if you start out with the wrong units.
It takes 4 AA batteries; I still have the same four generics (Naccon brand) that came with it 11 months ago. Remember, I use it several times every day and some days keep it turned on for fifteen minutes or more.
I chose the WeighMax because it seemed to be the cheapest version of what I wanted. I never use the bowl that came with it, I just put my own dishes on it; it can be difficult to read with a dinner plate on top as the plate is wider than the scale.
Some of the negative reviewers on Amazon suggest that it won't be sufficiently consistent or accurate to measure how much steam escaped from your baked potato, but I'll bet 16 ounces of beer that you'll find otherwise. However I did not test it against laboratory weights like some of the more positive reviewers claim. Again, my only complaint is that its memory doesn't recall the last weight when the scale turns itself off. It always stays on for at least a minute. Just now it gave me 88 seconds.
I expect this scale will last me a several more years, and if it ever breaks, I'll likely get the same scale again.

Works well Jan 25, 2010
By Cliffy Purchased this scale to weigh beer making ingredients. It replaces a similar electronic scale (used for grains) and a mechanical balance scale (used for hops). I like the fact that I can use this one scale to weight both grains in pounds and hops down to 1/10 of an ounce. This scale is very accurate when tested with a known laboratory weight.
Others have commented that battery life is poor. I haven't seen this as an issue yet but will add to this review if I see it come up in the future.
