3Very Nice A/V Rack  May 04, 2007
By Brett A. Cutler
Very happy with this A/V rack. Cloth back on unit to allow for larger components and will still hide them, but don't waste your time with the sticky tabs on the cloth, it constantly will fall off. Just take finish nails to it. Only real complaint is the wheels. On a carpet causes unit to feel wobbly and you can not take them off or unit sits slanted due to bottom of unit has decorative front at bottom (non removable). But you don't usually move it once your setup, so it is somewhat petty. Unit is very nice looking.

3Mixed Opinion  May 13, 2007
By D. Lafferty
The cabinet itself is nice, and certainly fulfills its function, but I feel it's over-engineered in terms of how it's made to go together. Be careful with assembly, as the design incorporates a series of pegs and plastic locking cams, and if you don't line everything up correctly you risk breaking the particle board. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to put the thing together, the number of bells and whistles were inadequately explained by an instruction manual that was done completely with pictures. I would have appreciated something more than cave-paintings, and a word description or three would have made the assembly process a lot less frustrating. No complaints with the final product, however.

The only major heartburn I had with the deal has to do with the packaging. The cabinet pieces were inadequately padded, allowing excessive movement in the box and resulting in a number of surface scratches. Watch out for that. Good luck!

2Looks nice, but way better options for the price  Feb 03, 2011
By TC SUCKS
I've had the Tech Craft SF50 Audio Cabinet in my house for about two weeks. Upon removal from the packaging, I noticed that it was of similar quality to cheaper cabinets, found at Wal-Mart. No big deal, It has 4 adjustable shelves which is nice for various sizes of equipement. I also noticed that my cabinet has a nice sized scratch on the top panel which was packaged in between the side panels in the packaging which would mean that it was damaged in the factory. Cabinet is very flimsy, not something I'd expect from a 200+ dollar piece of furniture. The casters on this particular model are terrible. I dont think you could move this stand on glass without one of the wheels falling off. I'm using it on berber carpet and one of the wheels has popped off after moving the cabinet to access my stereo's wiring. I guess you could buy better casters or simply not use any, but at this price point, I'd stay away from this cabinet as they're are most likely better options!

1The product is cheap......"broken wheel already"  Apr 28, 2011
By DoubleD304
This unit is cheap and unreliable. I didn't realize i was buying something i needed wood glue to assemble. Even though i tightened every bolt the cabinet feels like its going to fall apart. I wish i had assembled this cabinet together as soon as it was delivered. I was in the middle of constructing my Home Theater so it was stored for approximately 30 days. "Bad-Bad" decision on this purchase!!!

4I don't think I could've done better for the price  Jan 18, 2011
By Elizabeth Renee Blue
The final result is quite impressive. It looks great, being black, with simple lines, and the tempered, smoky, glass door. I love the height. I wanted something that was tall, as I had to bend alot before and it was hurting my back. I also needed something to deter my cats from laying on, or jumping on, my components. The door takes care of that.

Besides the looks, what I really liked and what surprised me very much is how much cleaner, sharper and tighter the overall sound coming out of my speakers was with this unit. I guess my previous shelving system was inefficient in terms of minimizing vibration and other sounds emitted by the components. The effect of the unit on sound quality was quite dramatic and immediately noticeable.

Notice I said 'was assembled' and not 'I assembled it'. Hence my 4 stars instead of 5. Other reviewers must be much handier than me because halfway in, I had to throw in the towel or risk damaging the shelving further. I had one collapse because I missed some dowels thanks to the poor instructions. Luckily the damage that caused was contained. Anyway, I consulted Craigslist and found a college student who was really exceptionally good at putting it all together in a jiffy. And on the same day I called, otherwise I would've had a real mess of a situation and the item may have lost another star. I found the assembly to be quite difficult. Not only were there many pieces to assemble but the instructions were primitive at best. The shelves were quite heavy and difficult to maneuver by myself. I am on the small side. I couldn't even imagine having to send such a heavy monster back, so I am really happy it worked out. I never imagined it would look so nice and I really never expected it to help my actual sound as much as it did.

If someone were to ask me now, as I asked others before I bought it, how worth it is it to buy a specialized 'audio cabinet' vs. a cheaper general shelving system, I would have to say VERY! And this cabinet here is as good as you will get for the price. I looked hard and wide. I am very happy with my purchase. Even after factoring the cost of having it assembled for me. I only wish I hadn't even bothered to do it myself. The reviews I read were deceptive in terms of the simplicity of the assembly so I hope to correct that mistake and spare someone else the hassle I had.
