Swiffer Picks Up Dust and Locks It In Jun 13, 2009
By Avid Reviewer
"A Music Fan"
Dust is a big problem for me because it triggers my allergies. I try to keep my environment as dust-free as possible by running an air filter 24/7 and by dusting frequently with a Swiffer duster.
- The Swiffer Duster Works Traditional dusters and dusting cloths oftentimes just push dust around especially on surfaces where there's a heavy buildup of dust. Not the Swiffer. The Swiffer picks up dust so well that it requires just one or two passes to get any dusty surface completely free of dust. Once the dust is locked in the Swiffer, it stays locked in, so it won't get released back in the air.
The flexibility and fluffiness of the Swiffer allow you to easily get around office equipment, kitchen appliances, and other objects into all the nooks and crannies. It really makes light work of dusting tabletops, window ledges, window blinds, and other surfaces.
- How It Works Each Swiffer duster comes out of the box looking more like a pad. It needs to be pre-fluffed before use. To fluff, grab both ends of the pad with the dusting surface up. Do not stretch it taut; leave some slack in the middle. Next, shake the duster vigorously by moving both hands in a see-saw motion. Now, your duster is all fluffed up and ready for use!
- Why It Works A newly fluffed up duster resembles cotton candy. The airy mass of material is made up of a lattice-like network of countless frizzy strands of microfibers that are responsible for trapping the dust they pick up. These microfibers are also electrostatically charged to attract dust.
-- Comparisons --
> Swiffer vs. Traditional Duster A traditional duster does not pick up dust as well as the Swiffer and some of what it picks up oftentimes get released back in the air! The Swiffer readily picks up dust in one or two passes. Once dust is locked in the Swiffer, it stays locked in.
> Swiffer vs. Microfiber Cloth A microfiber cloth picks up dust very well, but its surface quickly gets saturated with dust and it quickly loses it's effectiveness. The Swiffer, on the other hand, can pick up and lock in a lot more dust before it needs to be replaced.
> Swiffer vs. Chemically Treated Cloth The chemically treated dusting cloths often leave streaks on glass and other smooth surfaces. Not the Swiffer. Since the Swiffer works by using electrostatically-charged fibers, it won't leave streaks behind.
--- Of all the different types of dusting products I've tried, Swiffer works the best. I love how readily it picks up dust, and as someone with severe allergies, I can certainly appreciate the Swiffer duster's ability to lock the dust in to prevent it from being released back into the air. 5 stars!

time saver Dec 25, 2009
By Y. Wang This sweeper is an amazing time saver. I used to use water and towels to pick up dust or a duster and vacuum, and it took almost an hour to clean my place. This thing picks up the dust after one pass and I'm done in 10 minutes.
The only problem I found is that it does not work when wet. Water causes the dust to stick together and fall right off the sweeper. They should have put a warning about that, because I had a hell of a time cleaning up the mess.

Okay... Sep 13, 2011
By Adam I have glass desk and it just attracts dust. I'm very particular so I thought I'd buy these to help keep it clean.
I'm not seeing any benefit with these over a regular duster aside from the fact that these are disposable. They don't seem to trap dust any more than any other duster I've ever used. That being said, they do a decent job of helping me keep my desk slightly less dusty.

Not very good. Jul 14, 2011
By A. Smith I'll keep this simple. I purchased these at a local department store and gave them a try for about a month. Immediately I was disappointed to find that rather than actually removing or collecting dust things were simply being moved around. I wound up cleaning more of the mess using a vacuum once I had a bunch of fairly dense piles and lines of dust pushed into place with the Swiffer Duster.
I will not be buying this again, nor would I recommend it for anyone's dusting needs.

A real timesaver plus it actually makes the job almost fun Jun 24, 2010
By Pampeliska I have never been much of a housekeeper, and I really hate the repetitiousness of any cleaning jobs... no matter how well you clean the place, how much time it took to do the job, and how beautiful the end result looks, couple of days/weeks down the line the whole effect gets negated, disappears, and it's time to do it over again!! Unacceptably crazymaking, and I just refuse to participate in such an exercise of futility... As much as I can't stand cleaning, however, I do like to live in clean environment, so most of the time I hire a cleaning lady to do the job.
Yet I still have to take care some dusting and vacuuming in-between her visits, and the Swifter is most amazing helper as far as dusting goes. In the past I've tried the dry rags, wet rags, static dusters, and they all completely pale in the comparison with Swifter. The (dusting) job now takes a fraction of time that it used to take in the past, it's virtually almost effortless and there is no need for "fluffing out" or other cleaning of the dusting pad... when it gathers enough dust and dirt (and that job it does quite magnificently), you just throw it away.
Wonderful, wonderful product! Very simple, very elegant, reasonably inexpensive - and I love it!! (And btw all my cleaning ladies have used them as well, and loved them just as much).
Highly recommended!!
