Great Little Stool For Kitchen, Garden, or Garage - So Light! Feb 15, 2010
By Bold Consumer I have several kinds of step-stools, because I'm 5'1 and everything in my house is higher than I am.
Most important is the fact that it is stable when I stand on it and is so light weight that it can move anywhere and everywhere, with no fuss. Oh! It also can be cleaned VERY easily. I think it would be ideal for children too. Good value! I recommend it.
I've compared it with some of my other step-stools and here are the pros and cons:
-I have a beautiful stained-wood step-stool that my husband had made for me. It's higher than this one and useful if I need to reach something higher, but mostly it just sits there looking beautiful. It requires care and you can't just sponge it off. It's almost painful to get it dirty by standing on it. I love it. I just don't use it much.
-I have a rolling step-stool which stays in the kitchen most of the time. Very handy, but has ridges which collect dust and debris. I use it often. It's more expensive than the Rubbermaid step stool being reviewed, but also a good value for me.
-The Rubbermaid Step Stool being reviewed today is so very light that you can literally toss it around. That means it's handy inside or outside the house, in the kitchen, where it often may be found inside the pantry, or in the garage, or even in the garden where it also serves the purpose of being a portable chair for weeding, etc.
CONCLUSION: I can't think of any negatives about this step-stool. It isn't as beautiful as a stained-wood step-stool and it isn't on wheels, but neither of those things really take away from the fact that it is handy, seems stable when I stand on it, and is super-easy to clean. I recommend it!
EDITED much later to say that this little step stool still gets lots of use. I don't keep it out on display, because it isn't beautiful, but it sure is handy and a good value in my opinion.

more practical for toddlers May 31, 2011

The stepping stools sold in toy / baby stores don't even remotely get the child close to the water taps to wash his hands. This stool is the perfect height for my 18 month old to step up on and be able to reach the water faucet. The sturdy base and no-slip feet make this stool a must-have. Good basic rubbermaid stool -- ignore the gimicks of the character stools. I've gone back online and bought a second stool for our remaining bathrooms.

Not great looking, but handy. Dec 05, 2010

When your wife is 4'11", you learn to live with step stools. Of course, when you're 6'2", It may well be that that's one of the reasons she married you.
We've had one of these for 6 or 7 years. It's indestructible, and relatively inexpensive. It can easily hold 205 pounds, and when my 205 pounds isn't around is almost tall enough for my wife to reach the top shelf in the kitchen. There are two problems: (1) It's not the greatest looking thing in a brand new kitchen, and it's constantly out, and (2) the grooves on top at very close together and after a while, they get really dirty. We've tried brushes and industrial strength cleanser, but to no avail. So, we bought another for the next 5-7 years, and move this one out to the garage.
P.S. Shipping costs are a little on the high side, but we could not find this locally, not at Home Depot, not at Ace...

Wish I had purchased this years ago! Apr 21, 2008

"Should clean more often"
I love this stool for day to day use in the kitchen, when I don't want to get out the big folding step stool.
I'm 5'2", and got tired of always asking my husband to help me get things down from the higher kitchen cabinets.
This stool is lighweight, so it's easy to move around from place to place.
It is compact, and stores easily.
It's the perfect little kitchen helper. As my daughter gets older, I plan on using this to help her reach the bathroom sink for washing hands and brushing teeth.
Great little product.
It isn't much of a boost, however, so I still need the folding step stool for things like chaning the flourescent kitchen lights, etc.

Taller than most stools so little guys can reach the sink. May 01, 2011
By Johanna I love the height. I have an average to short 2.5 year old. Most stools he can barely reach one hand at a time under the water. This makes it possible for him to comfortable wash his hands.
