I bought this pitcher after reading both reviews. I could smell the plastic when it first arrived. I left it on the counter for a week, washed it in hot soapy water and I cannot smell or taste any plastic. And believe me, since I quit smoking five years ago, there are MANY things that bother my sniffer now that never did before! So if this pitcher smelled like plastic, I would smell it! I love this pitcher. Thinking about getting another one!

Good inexpensive pitcher Oct 31, 2007

I've owned 3 of these pitchers, and have found them to be very good at what they do. It's a simple, basic 1-gallon pitcher. Contrary to the previous review I've never noticed any plastic smell or taste in our drinks. We use them daily to hold iced tea.
If you don't need anything fancy, then these pitchers work great.

No matter how many times this pitcher was washed, it still kept making the drinks taste like plastic. After trying various types of liquids, and always drinking exclusively out of real glass glasses, I finally tossed the pitcher because it kept ruining every drink with that awful plastic stink and taste.
Only high-grade plastic won't transfer taste and odor. It's surprising to see a good company like Rubbermaid would use low-grade plastic for a pitcher of all things.

I needed a pitcher for frozen drinks such as Minute Maid orange juice. This product is excellent and unlike the comment in one review, I have noticed no plastic taste. One thing does need a bit of clarification though, the pitcher is described as being "one gallon" in size. I found this a little ambivalent, since it doesn't make clear whether or not it will fit in a typical refrigerator (it will), so I'll try to make it clearer here. The pitcher is frosted off-white plastic. Like a plastic gallon milk-bottle you can see the fluid level as a shadow through the plastic side. It stands some 10 1/2 inches high, and 6 1/2 inches wide at the top, tapering slightly to a width of 5 1/2 inches at the bottom. The lid has a slotted strainer on one side and open port on the other with either turnable to face the spout. One reviewer commented on the lid not matching the photo. Being amazingly non-observant, I hadn't even noticed. My pitcher came with a brick-red lid. Again, the quality seems excellent. Need a simple pitcher? This should do nicely.

Easy to clean Sep 05, 2011

We purchased this pitcher because our previous Rubbermaid pitcher was impossible to clean inside the hollow handle. This one is simple, is easy to clean and will last a lifetime. The handle ergonomics could be more comfortable, which is why I will not rate it a 5 star.
