Monterey King Storage Headboard Aug 06, 2008
By Anonymous in TX Overall, this is a fantastic bargain for someone looking for a practical, storage-type headboard. The price ($178) for the king size was the best I was able to find for a storage headboard. It's particle board-type material, assembled like IKEA furniture. The instructions could have been a bit clearer on the assembling of the storage shelves, but really not a problem. The one thing that really needs caution is tamping in the dowels on the very top shelf of the headboard. Make sure you line them up and hand-guide them into the holes. I screwed this step up because I was doing it myself and had a hard time since it was king size unit. Only improvement I would make is to cut out some holes in the backer piece so that electrical cords can fit thru for a nice, clean look if you plan on putting a telephone or small lamp or electric clock on the headboard shelves.

Prepac Cherry Queen Bookcase Headboard Jan 18, 2009

I was really looking forward to this Cherry Queen Bookcase Headboard for my kids. I ordered two of these units. They arrived on time via Fedex. Boxes were well packaged, but when I opened the first one. I noticed that C6-backer was chipped and broken and C7-fixed shelf had only 1 hole pre-drilled where it needed 4 to hold cams - this was not damage due to transit but poor workmanship and quality control. I have contacted prepac to have replacement parts sent as I am part way through construction. Once this is complete, I will start on the second install, I hope there are no surprises in store.
This is your typical particle board with cherry finish, it does look nice. Instructions are OK, not sure why people struggled. The only thing is the backer is a cherry color and not black as pictured. Buyer beware, you may have to order replacement parts, so be forewarned prior to purchase.
I will update my post once I get the two replacement parts ...
I got my replacement parts and they were undamaged. Finally got the two headboards fully assembled.

Monterey King Headboard Feb 04, 2009
By J. Butler Easy enough to put together, and all the pieces were there including a few spare screws and what-nots. The top piece seems to be actual wood rather than pressed, so that's nice. It's all pre-drilled in the correct places. The only part NOT pre-drilled is the part where you actually attach the headbord to your existing bed frame---again, very nice, since that may vary from frame to frame. All in all I am very pleased with this headboard. And, as an aside for which I have no explanation, my bedsheets seem to stay in place now, where with just a bed frame alone the sheets were strewn all about when I woke up. I am very, very pleased with this piece.

Just what I was looking for Jul 05, 2009

I had been looking for a kingsize bookcase headboard for some time, and finally found this one, exactly what I wanted at a great price. It matches some white Ikea bookshelves in my bedroom. It has lots of space for bedside essentials and is plenty wide on top for a slim lamp with a shade, and is very sturdy. I put it together by myself (female, age 55) with a little help lifting the large piece on the top. But when put together it is very heavy and should have two people to lift it. The box is also very heavy when it first comes. The finishing is nice and everything fits together well. Here's a tip: before I put the backboard on the shelving unit, I covered it with fabric that matches my wallpaper and bedspread, so the pattern can be seen at the back of the shelves when you are looking at the headboard. Very good product for the money.

Great headboard to replace your night stands Nov 16, 2010

We purchased this headboard after acquiring the storage bed. We decided to get rid of the night stands and use this headboard instead. There is plenty of room to store your alarm clock, books, and a lamp. Anonymous TX recommended cutting out some holes in the backer piece so that electrical cords can fit, but you can also cut the board and only have it for the center piece. It took us less than half an hour to assemble this headboard.
