Beautiful set for Every day Dec 05, 2008
By B. Cherry
"Beverly"
I purchased this set[...] for a service of 8. It is real 18/10 and the set looks great. It's stainless like any other stainless from flatware to pots and pans--18/10. Nothing more nothing less. Don't really know what the other reviewer is talking about. Their comment about the box it came it, well maybe they should check the sources where they buy their items from. Oneida is long established and so is this pattern. I'm sure mine will last a very long time. Very nice pattern.

Oneida Michelangelo Flatware Jul 20, 2011
By Michael This spring I decided to replace the stainless flatware set that I had used daily for twenty-five years. I'm a careful buyer who likes quality and elegance at a good price, so did a thorough search before selecting the set. After reviewing the three grades of stainless steel (18/10, 18/8, and 18/0), 18/10 clearly stood out as the most desirable grade at a relatively modest premium in price. I chose the 18/10 Oneida Michelangelo as soon as I saw the picture. It is a beautiful set that has the look of an ornate silverplate or sterling pattern. I bought a service for twelve with eight pieces per place setting [salad fork, dinner fork, dinner knife, two teaspoons, place (soup) spoon, iced tea spoon, and steak knife] and twelve serving pieces (including a carving set). The set is delightful to use, and feels comfortable in the hand. Girl friends literally gasp when they open the kitchen drawer to see this very impressive flatware array. I rate it at four stars instead of five for two reasons: the dinner fork and soup spoon are a little shorter than I am used to using (no doubt a manufacturing cost concession), and the serrated steak knives are not as sharp as Henckels steak knives. These are minor shortcomings in my view, given the positives. Buy the set and don't look back. You'll be happy you did.
After 30+ years, it is still beautiful May 23, 2012
By Pat J. I have a two sets of 12 along with all the extra serving pieces and I absolutely love love love this flatware. I use it everyday and as a matter of fact I have one of the sets in my motorhome. I love how beautiful it is and how even after 30+ years of using it daily, putting in the dishwasher, etc., it still looks as good as the day I brought it home. How do I know that, 'because we accidentally threw out some of the salad forks with the trash and the replacements for those just arrived last week and of course I put them along side my old pieces to check out how they looked. I could not tell them apart. I love how this pattern make me feel a little extra "special" each and every time I use them. I love the ornate look. I highly recommend this design.

Big disappointment. 18/10 made in USA, heirloom collection Jun 23, 2009
By BAM Oneida got the 18/10 right and the serving pieces are beautiful. Perhaps the larger size of the serving pieces allowed them more room to embelish the pattern more fully. Their large serving pieces earn five stars for a stainless pattern.
However, the 5 piece place settings are a HUGE disappointment. They do not have a nice hand feel to them. They are not well balanced and they look "cheap." The Michelangelo stainless pattern is squished up and lacks depth due to the smaller scale. Cheap pop metal comes to mind when handling the place settings.
The forks and spoons are not in the Continental size. This is okay, but they just are NOT comfortable in the hand and they lack the elegance of a well made set. Perhaps Continental sizing for the place settings would have allowed a better presentation of the pattern design. The quality of the workmanship is fine, the pattern detail on the five piece place settings is flawed. This is a design issue.
The sterling Michelangelo pattern is awesome! This stainless version is a sad attempt at capturing the beauty of the sterling.
If you love this pattern, save up for the sterling version--well worth the difference in price. Watch on ebay as it is discontinued. Yes, it is okay to use sterling everyday. Use makes sterling even more beautiful. You are worth it!
I do appreciate Oneida keeping jobs in the USA and had hoped to support American workers. I am willing to pay more for quality items made in the USA. But, this set just doesn't make the grade.

Its awesome Aug 02, 2009

"only the finest"
I have used oneida for 43 years. The chateau as a newlywed and them the awesome Michelangelo. My grown kids love it and one asked for the same pattern as a wedding gift. I know about balance, being an artist, I buy Windsor Newton series 7 paintbrushes. All my tools are the finest. I love quality. The best pens in the world feel so good in your hand, I feel so spoiled. As to the Michelangelo being thin, it passed the ice cream test here. This stuff is solid. Get is while you can, I am always adding to my set. I use it for everyday because I love it.
