Upgrading rating Nov 13, 2009
By Suzanne M. Stauffer As noted below, we had the same trouble that most other people did. My husband accidentally discovered how to make it work with our sink. After turning the handle and letting the stopper drop down, push on the handle as hard as you can. You'll feel the stopper seal. It will, in fact, seal so well that you'll have to almost pry it up.
Still, you shouldn't need instructions in order to use a sink stopper.

I also was prepared to be pleased with this product, and am now incredibly irritated, so much so that I feel the need to complain in a review. It works fine as a strainer, and I like not having to dig the gunk out of it, but the stopper only functions if it is sitting precisely in the center of the drain. The whole thing shifts very slightly while I'm washing the dishes, as dishes and silverware move around in the water or as I add new dishes, and the next thing I know, the sink is empty. It doesn't come out, mind you, it simply shifts slightly, and because the silicon strainer is so flexible, that's enough to dislodge the stopper. I really have to wonder about the product testing on this one. It's hardly a fortune at $10, but they aren't giving it away at the price, either.

Love the Stopper function on the OXO Sink Strainer! Sep 28, 2009
By Lisa NYC I had the silicone sink strainer and LOVED it- just flips inside out to to get the guck (sp?) you don't want to touch into the trash. When we moved, I misplaced it and went out to get one for the new apartment. I got the new version with stopper instead and it's great! I guess because it's soft silicone, you don't have to push the stopper part into the drain area- you just let it drop gently and it does the job! The best part is that I now have 2 products in one- the best sink strainer ever and a stopper to soak dirtier pans if I need to. And of course, it looks nice in the sink because of the dark color and stainless steel outside.

Works and looks great Jan 12, 2010
By JHendrickson I'm not sure how you could have trouble getting a sink stopper correctly placed in your drain so it can do it's job. I bought two of these after reading the negative reviews and am pleased with the purchase. Ignore the negative reviews.
Aesthetics - These look great in the sink. They also cover the entire drain that it sits over and makes it look like it is built into the sink. We like them very much.
Function - Turning them inside out to empty is a great feature. Combine this with the stopper that is very easy to use (turn till it drops down) and you'd have a hard time finding a better option for a strainer/stopper.
Longevity - I was initially concerned that the silicone for the basket was glued to the stainless rim. However, this is not the case. The silicone is all one piece and extends to the edge on the underside of the stainless. This keeps it from sliding in the sink as well.

Doesn't stay open Apr 19, 2011
By K. Ostrach This OXO sink strainer won't stay open. Also, it appears to grow slimy black stuff on it quite easily. It looks good, but I don't like it.

stopper does not work Apr 10, 2011
By RichardW In my sink the strainer part works fine. But, the stopper does not stop the water from draining out.
