5Does what it should  Dec 30, 2006

No complaints from us, we love this crock. Sometimes the butter slides out, but not a product issue or a big deal. It has happened with all the ones we've had. This one is a great size for table service.

5Great item  Jan 11, 2007

Love my butter bell.. Visited a friend of mine this summer and she is a butter lover and English so she had one of these and suggested that I get one to keep butter spreadable. Works Great. Suppose to keep it fresh for month without refrigeration.

All I do is slightly melt real butter in the micro for a few seconds, then put it into the "bell" and WOW! Works SUPER!

5Butter up, Buttercup!  Sep 24, 2011
By NyiNya "NyiNya"
At last someone has solved the butter dilemma. You know what it's like. If you keep the butter in the refrigerator, it stays as hard as a rock, you can't spread it, and it tears the morning toast. Okay, torn toast is not the worst thing that can confront you in the morning, that would be my ex-husband, but if you find mornings a little iffy in general, you don't need to start the day with a flattened out breakfast. On the other hand, if you keep it in the cupboard, it turns into a greasy, disgusting mess and goes bad quickly (the butter, not the ex-husband). You might try eating that entire stick of butter in one day, which I certainly could, no problem, but because of an issue with keeping my rear end in check, don't. A better option is this clever little crock.

The butter keeper goes in the cupboard, but it keeps the butter fresh and prevents melt down. You put one stick of butter into the bell shaped part, add about an inch of water to the container, and Magic. Soft, spreadable butter. No more agonizing over that torn toast.

I've been using one of these butter thingies for a while and have tried several different brands. They are all pretty similar and all do the job. The one problematic butter holder I encountered goes by the name Butter Belle. For some reason, the egg-shaped butter holder always cracked after just a few months. I went through three, thinking maybe it was me. However, I have been able to maintain an excellent long-term relationship with the Norpro 291 White Butter Keeper. Also the Norpro costs less than the pricy but high-strung Butter Belle. (Well, what do you expect with that name, of course it's going to be a diva.)

Now that this pressing problem is solved and our best minds no longer have to struggle with the Butter Issue, we can all turn our attention to solving lesser, but equally pesky issues, like fixing the ecomony.

52 things to know about butter keepers  Jan 07, 2010
By Granny Franny
Butter keepers are great. You can use the back of a spoon to push your butter firmly into it so it doesn't slide down. Most importantly: change the water in it every couple of days or else your butter WILL go bad.
