Not as tall as it appears in Amazon photo Aug 16, 2009

This Large Utensil Crock in Black Onyx looks in the photo like it will be taller than it is wide. Unfortunately, this is not the case. The crock, although beautiful, is too short. It is plenty wide, to hold many utensils. But it is so short (6 inches) that some of my Le Creuset utensils lay more at a sideways angle than upright, because the sides of the crock should be taller, like they are in the photo.
The photo is misleading. Amazon or Le Creuset should replace it with a photo of the actual item. Perhaps this is an older version of the item, but the proportions are clearly off.
Also, I would have preferred it if the interior of the crock were also black. It is beige.
The crock is beautifully made, but I may look at returning this and replacing it with one of the Le Creuset canisters, which could be used without the lid. The Black Onyx color is lovely and goes beautifully with my new Le Creuset Black Onyx utensils. They are mostly leaning against one side, as it would take a huge number of utensils to fill up this crock. To be more functional, the crock needs to be taller and less wide.

great value, high quality, Apr 05, 2009
By Carter's Mom This utensil crock is just the right size to hold a whole slug of your kitchen utensils that are taking up too much drawer space. It is about six inches in diameter around the top, so it may be larger than many utensil holders. I find the size to be just right: holds a reasonable amount and isn't too bulky on the counter. The outside is black and glossy (the picture makes it look as if it may have a matte finish, but that is not the case), and the inside is a light beige or sand color. Normally it is hard to find the black Le Creuset as many of the black items are exclusive to Bloomingdales. The works for both tall and medium length utensils.

This is a beautiful crock, bigger than the picture looks! It is heavy-duty and very nice quality! It looks beautiful on my countertop! I have 11 total spatulas and whisks in mine and plenty of room for more items!

Ample space for utensils but finish is misleading Nov 19, 2010
By spider I found the size and heft of this crock to be perfect for storing all my kitchen utensils and gadgets. The weight of the crock is perfect too. The only issue I have is with the color/finish. I chose the Black Onyx specifically because the photo showed it to have a matte finish, but when it arrived the finish was glossy. If I had known this I would have picked another color. I was just partial to the matte finish, so this was somewhat disappointing and misleading. Otherwise, really good crock overall.

Le Creuset Utensil Holder Onyx Black Oct 11, 2011
By Diana

Just recieved this is today. I love the shiny, black color as it matches my appliances. It is a bit shorter than anticipated...but I have so many utensils that I used all the space so my utensils stay erect without slouching. It has a good weight and a nice classic look. The picture posted does this no justice. My only change would be to make this a bit taller.
