I bought this for my wife, thinking that it would be nice because it's porcelain.

She doesn't like it. Two problems:

1. It's small. It's only 12oz, and the big plastic ones are 4 cups or more. This means separating gravy in several batches, instead of doing it all at once.

2. It's opaque, so she can't see when the gravy is out and there's only fat leftover. Again, the clear plastic ones are better.

I've been in the market for one of these since my plastic one broke. All of the borosilicate glass ones LOOK great but I'm a busy chef and I can't be bothered with worrying if my next move was going to break off the slender spout. Then I saw THIS! TA-DA! Sturdy, utilitarian and not nearly as expensive as those fragile, gooseneck versions! I was going to buy it until I realized a few things: (1) it only holds 12 oz.; that's a paltry 1.5 cups. All of the others are either 2- or 4-cup. (2) Being porcelain, one cannot see from the side the proportion of fat-to-drippings. And (3) how about some lines molded into the inside of the main cup that indicate 1/4 cup, 1/2 cup, 3/4 cup, 1 cup? I tried to find a website for HIC so send my suggestions but could find none. Until they improve this (and it wouldn't take much), I'll be separating my gravy the old-fashioned way :-(

After using plastic separators for years, and having them fall apart after a while, it is great to have a sturdy ceramic version that will last forever and be easier to clean.

Well, I really wanted this item but I received a shell plate instead. The re-order was at a much higher price than first noted so I never got the item.
