Can't beat it at this price. Dec 30, 2010
By BakerB I investigated all the butter dishes available on Amazon and a handful of other sites in search of a nice-looking covered butter dish with a handle (ever try removing and replacing a handle-less lid with slightly buttered fingers?) that I could use with my fine china without paying a premium price. Granted, if I wanted a gorgeous butter dish, I could pay over $100 for the Waterford crystal version. It would be gorgeous, but I'd be afraid to use it. The Godinger Dublin dish is priced at a fraction of the Waterford version and I therefore have no fears. "So, what's it like?" you ask.
It is crystal and it looks nice, but it is made in China. It is not perfect. There are some small bubbles to be found in various locations that would not be allowed in the Waterford version. They do not affect the use of the item, and they are not noticeable unless you examine the dish closely. These blemishes will vary from dish to dish. I cannot predict how much you'll see the blemishes on the one you receive.
It is heavy. The base alone weighs 15 oz. The lid adds nearly another 1 lb. 7 oz. Total weight approaches 2.5 lbs without the butter. You won't accidentally brush it off the table unless you are a bull in a china shop.
The lid rests inside the indentation of the lid, but the lid rocks ever so slightly if you push on it. There is no risk of it coming off, it just doesn't fit perfectly flat on the base. Not a big issue.
Dimensions: Interior of the base where butter rests: 6.25" long x 3" wide x 3/8" high. Exterior of base: 8 3/16" long x 3.5" wide x 3/4" high.
Interior of lid (which determines size of butter cube): 5.75" long x 2.5" wide x 1.75" high along edges. (The lid slopes down on the sides, so I gave the shortest dimension. It is therefore slightly higher in the middle, meaning there is slightly more than 1.75" of height where the butter will be located if centered on the plate. BTW, the width of the butter dish narrows by 1/16" in the middle, meaning the sides are not straight, but you won't notice unless you stare at the bottom edges of the lid. My butter cubes are 1.5" high and wide, so they should fit just fine.) Exterior of lid: 6.25" long x 2 7/8" wide x 3 5/8" high when you include the handle.
The handle is glued to the lid. Only time will tell if the glue will hold long-term. I can see the glue. It is slightly cloudy, but you likely will not notice during normal use.
I will use it as originally planned. Can't beat it at this price.

A butter dish that I like Jan 30, 2010
By Edward D. Wortman The Goldinger Dublin Covered Butter Dish exceeded my expectations from the moment I opened the box. It looks and feels more expensive than it cost. It is roomy enough for a whole stick of butter and then some. The top has a nice balance to it and the handle feels secure when you lift it. It looks good with my best dishes and my every day dishes. I could not be more happy with it.

Oour Godinger Butter Dish Dec 27, 2009

My husband wanted a large butter dish that he could easily lift the top from and this dish is just that. It's heavy so it will not be knocked around and it's very nice looking. It would be great for a dinner party with more people than just the two of us. I am happy with my purchase and the price I paid for it here on Amazon.

I really like this butter dish. It looks very pretty when it is on the table and it does fit perfect in my fridge in the (butter dish section).

Great Service, Great Item Apr 25, 2010
By rivahgal I love this butter dish!! It is pretty, but not delicate. It has a handle for the cover, holds a whole stick of butter, and fits in the butter compartment of my fridge. If this were to break, I would replace with the exact same butter dish. The company delivered it quickly, too, so it's all good!!
