Beautiful but it rusts Feb 03, 2008

I absolutely love this pattern. It's mirrored finish is just beautiful, and I've not been able to find anything else like it. The problem is, though, that it rusts. I've had 18/10 flatware before, and have never had this rust problem. The knives seem to rust on the actual smooth part as well as the hammered handle, and the others will get it on the handles. I'm so bummed because I can't find another pattern like it anywhere. So I have to give it only 1 star because of the rust.

I love this set, but it rusts! Dec 06, 2009

I started using my set about a month ago, and unfortunately the pieces are starting to get rust spots! I have never had this problem with silverware, and I assume it is the 18/0 steel that causes the rust problem. I've never had to deal with this before. Regardless, I absolutely love everything else about this set - they are a good weight and size, the hammered handles are absolutely beautiful, and the serving set is a great bonus - which is why I gave it three stars instead of one. Be prepared to hand dry or use the heated dry cycle on your dishwasher.

Cautious shopper Dec 30, 2010

Though the Ginkgo Lafayette pattern is being produced the new products are not 18/10 as stated. Theye are manufactured of 18/0. 18/0 has no nickle content and is inferrior to the 18/10 version that Ginkgo was producing. I questioned Ginko regarding the switch to a less durable material and they have not responded. Buyer beware.
If anyone does have the original 18/10 version (inked Ginko and 18/10 logo on the rear face of the untensil) please let me know as I would like to purchase a set.

Still Beautiful Tableware a Year Later... Feb 10, 2008

I received 8 place settings as a Christmas gift from my husband in 2006. This pattern is so beautiful I immediately went online to Amazon to order the steak knives, 2 hostess sets, the accessory set and an additional 4 place settings to round it out to 12. The design is a one of kind and I love the balance. They just feel good in your hand. I have never experienced any of the rust problems reported buy a couple of others reviewers. They will scratch with normal wear, but this really doesn't detract from the overall beauty.
We went to dinner recently at a local high end restaurant and we were surprised to see they set their tables with this pattern.
For Christmas 2007, my husband completed my Lafayette collection with the serving bowls, salt & pepper shakers, napkin rings, tray and water pitcher.
Go for it! You won't be disappointed.

sparkling flatware Jan 09, 2007
By H. Heindel This flatware is beautiful. Each piece is well balanced and user friendly. The proportions are generous yet the style is refined.
The first set included two tablespoons which were rough on the rounded mouth part. Amazon immediately replaced the entire set when notified of the defect. If the two defective spoons were not a part of the original set, I would have rated this a 5 star item.
