I've owned this desk for 2 years- and use it constantly. I understand the mixed reviews it's been getting. On the one hand it looked really good when I got it, fit the space,is a nice design and the right size. On the other hand, I also have had problems with the magnetic catch and the front shelf opening. Mostly, though, the finish has not lasted at all- it has worn away and the wood underneath is showing through on the front edge. The desk top is scratched- and this really shows because the finish is very thin and the wood underneath is very light. On the other hand, I am thinking of ordering another one because it's so reasonable and it's almost as cheap as trying to refinish this one. I too don't find Target easy to work with and I am concerned about getting damaged merchandise- as so many reviewers have reported. I'm still looking for other alternatives.

I have owned this desk for at least a year now and I just love it! I just love the look of the dark walnut wood tone and the sleek style of the desk. It is very sturdy and a good solid design. I don't normally like pull out drawers for the keyboard because they have a tendancy to be lightweight and break easily, but this one... I can lean on the thing and it doesn't even give!! It's just fantastic. The surface of the desk has plenty of room for my monitor, a desk organizer, my mouse pad, a lamp, etc. For a while I even had the printer sitting on it, until I bought the file cabinet that matches the desk so I put the printer on that. The wood cleans up very well, spills just wipe off and a few little scratches here and there just give it that nice well-loved antique look.
I would definitely recommend this desk to anyone, or any part of the Dolce collection for that matter. I have the TV stand, the desk, the cd tower, the coffee table and two end tables of the same collection all in my living room and I just smile every time I look at them. I couldn't imagine having anything else in my living room. It looks like I spent a fortune on the stuff and it really didn't cost me much at all!
You can't get a better price than that for what you're getting!!

I carefully read all reviews before making any purchase on amazon. When I was looking for a relatively inexpensive computer desk, I came across this Dolce Dark Walnut Desk which seemed perfect for my needs. My only reservation was that several reviewers said that it arrived with broken pieces. I had no such problems - the desk arrived in perfect condition. It was extremely easy to assemble and is a nice size. I was actually expecting it to be quite large because several reviewers commented on it being larger than they expected. It's actually perfect for my flat screen monitor, speakers,desk lamp, mousepad, and workspace.
I would agree with past reviewers on the color of the desk being a very dark cherry instead of a dark walnut. I would have preferred a dark walnut, but this desk is nonetheless beautiful, sturdy, and a great buy. It looks much more expensive than it really is. I only wish that they brought back the matching filing cabinet - as I understand it, they have discontinued it. I will be purchasing the matching bookcases soon!

I love it. When I took it out of the box it had 1 little dint on it. It is only noticeable if you are looking for it. I think Target just needs to be more careful with the box. The desk is really beautiful & it is bigger and sturdier than I thought. It is really worth every penny. The hard thing is finding a chair that complements the desk & doesn't cost as much as it. I put it together in about 20 minutes, I was watching tv. If you are thinking about purchasing it, just do it. You will be pleasantly surprised.

the furniture itself is fine. or rather, it would be if it was shipped properly. before ordering anything from target, think long and hard about how willing you are to deal with damaged goods and their return. if you receive something damaged (and you will), be prepared for an extensive return process. chances are, the item they send you as a replacement will be damaged as well. this happened to me twice. if you're lucky, you will be able to piece something decent together from the multiple shipments. this, however, will take time. additionally, even if the piece is not cracked, you will need to make a trip to the hardware store to purchase stain to fix the discolorations in the wood. i bought the desk, the hutch and the bookcase - all of which had to be returned to replace cracked pieces and all of which had to be touched up with stain.
also be advised that target does not make it clear that certain pieces will not be delivered at all if you do not make arrangements with the outside carrier. after waiting and waiting, and calling target on several occasions, someone will eventually relay the information that you need to call the carrier and make a delivery appointment - even though other pieces arrived without such complications.
quite honestly, this has been far more inconvenient than it was worth. by the time you pay for the shipping and the tax, this is not so much a "deal" but a waste of time and money.
